In 1886, the world’s favourite soft drink was invented by Dr John S Pemberton in Atlanta, Georgia. It was first available at Jacob's Pharmacy as a soda fountain drink and contained Coca‑Cola syrup and carbonated water.

Coca‑Cola was patented in 1887 and registered as a trademark in 1893. By 1895 it was being sold all around the United States. As early as 1899, there were several franchised bottling operations for Coca‑Cola in the United States and, by 1906, Coca‑Cola started to be available internationally.

In 1915, the Root Glass Company created the iconic shape of the Coca‑Cola bottle, developing this startling idea from a cocoa-bean illustration. The beloved Coca‑Cola bottle, which was described by noted industrial designer, Raymond Loewy, as the ‘perfect liquid wrapper’ has inspired a number of creative projects, with Andy Warhol’s Coca‑Cola art being the most well known.

Coca‑Cola refreshes the world in mind, body and spirit. That’s what The Coca‑Cola Company’s 2020 vision is all about. When you open a can or bottle of Coca‑Cola, you’re opening the path to happiness too.
